North Carolina alpaca farms  will continue making a larger contribution to the State's agricultural production as the industry grows. The major agricultural products are tobacco, corn, cotton, hay, peanuts, and vegetable crops. The state is the country's leading producer of mica and lithium, and is the nation's largest furniture, tobacco, brick, and textile producer. Metalworking, chemicals, and paper are also important industries.  The North Carolina College of Textiles is already working with the the alpaca industry to develop new and improved products made of alpaca fiber.
