Gold of the Andes: The Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas and Guanacos of South Americaprovides an in depth look at the ancient history of alpacas and other Andean camelids, and the role they played in ancient South American societies.  Hard to get ahold of, but well worth inclusion in any alpaca library. (2 volume set)

Alpacas: Synthesis of a Miracle is one of the more comprehensive books about alpacas.  Sometimes provocative, sometimes controversial, it is certainly a good read for anyone interested in learning more about alpacas and the alpaca industry.
