As the birthplace of the alpaca industry, the Sydney, Coast and Highlands Region is geographically compact, yet climatically diverse.Alpacas have thrived in all areas of this Region, from the highlands to the coast and on the urban fringe, with herds ranging from broad-acre farmers to boutique studs and hobby farmers.

This region has many breeders who have specialised in different aspects of the industry such as breeding black or grey animals, breeding suris, and in more technical areas such as the SRS (Soft Rolling Skin) breeding system and the national embryo transfer scheme.
